How To Get Along With Your Neighbors

By Jeffery S. Niowsky

A fence is a part of your property. It could be yours alone but in some instances, only half of the side belongs to you. There are many reasons why people build fences. Generally, it is to protect their privacy and set visual boundaries on their property. Most of the fence owners would like to keep their fences maintained because it adds beauty and neatness to their property. There would be no problem in keeping the fence in good condition if the fence lies on your property, however, complicated discussions is inevitable if the fence is shared by two property owners.

Community consists of individuals with unique kind and personality. Conflicts are unavoidable. Generally, even neighboring countries got their own issues with one another that oftentimes yield to disagreements. That sounds like a catastrophe in the making but if you choose to stay where you are right now, you might impede any and all possible conflicts what so ever. If you want an idea of how far events can snowball just look at the middle east through a website such as Al Jazeera or Micheal Savage via online streaming radio.

In some cases, some people are simply hard to deal with. Either they have exaggerated their own rights and justifications or they are just simply strange. So, staying away is just the best you can do. These types of neighbors are best to be ignored and disregarded. Aside from personal differences, property lines or boundaries seem to pose a never ending issue between neighbors. The main question is, where exactly should it lie?

In case the fence is owned by two parties that is you and your neighbor, it's best to consult your neighbor about your plans regarding the fence. You might assume that your neighbor does not want to pay his part with the fence renovation but you'll never confirm your negative assumptions unless you try. Besides, you have to inform them anyway because half of the fence is owned by them. It's one way of expressing respect which you as person demands too.

As much as you wanted to keep your property neat, there would a process and people to deal with. You should open your mind with objections and just move on. It's far better not to have neighbors as enemies than having a neat fence.
