When nobody is looking, who are you?
Are you the exact same person as you always are? Are you truly consistent in your character?
When we lack our integrity in life, we truly stop living. Our word means nothing because there's nothing substantial to back it up, we lose our relationships because people can't trust us and most importantly, we lose faith in our ability to do what we said we were going to do. Integrity is incredibly important and one of the most fundamental building blocks of life. When we lose our integrity, we lose ourselves.
Who could really trust us if we don't actually do what we said we are going to do? Could you even trust yourself? Not really. But isn't it incredibly how many people in this world seem to not care about their integrity?
How do you live a life with integrity?
When you say you are going to do something, make sure it's already as good as done. When you talk about yourself, truly tell the facts. When you make promises, keep them. And among all of that, focus on the little details, because while they're the small aspects of life, they demand your attention and respect. If you can get the tiny things right, you are setting yourself up to get the large things right as well.
What happens if you break your integrity? Admit your mistake and recommit to what you can.
Admit your mistakes. Admit your mistakes quickly and emphatically. It's amazing how much others will forgive you when you understand your wrongdoings and try to make amends. People respect you more and they trust you more because they know that it happens to everyone.
It is a million times easier to be open and honest about your mistakes than to try to cover them up completely.
It's time to build some integrity in your life and begin to follow through with everything you say you're going to do. Your life will change, your relationships will thrive, and you will start moving forward quickly.
Because honestly, without integrity, we really are nothing.
