Top 3 Lessons From A Christian Executive Coach

By Bertulda Zerna

One advantage a Christian Executive Coach has is that they work with multiple clients. This gives them the ability to create "collective wisdom" as they work with different leaders and executives across industries and business models. There are 3 core things I have learned throughout my time spent as a Christian Executive Coach.

First, it can be very lonely to hold a leadership position. All of the executives that I've worked with have talked extensively about the struggle of being at the very top. There are pressures that these individuals face both inside and outside of their organizations. They feel as though they are surrounded by people who want something.

Employees never understand the burden and care leaders carry for those they lead. As such, leaders are always managing that balance of not feeling understood while doing everything they can meet the needs of everyone they care about.

Second, leaders often question whether or not they are competent. They have to appear self-confident and must exude both discernment and direction at all times. They constantly wonder whether their efforts are going to fail or succeed. A lot of the people that I have worked with in the past wonder if the masks they wear are transparent.

Last, leadership and visionaries are never really able to find an end to their efforts. One thing that I have found while coaching executives is that after having achieved their targets, they immediately set and pursue new ones. Leaders rarely have the opportunity to experience contentment. New iterations await, more milestones lie ahead and more must be accomplished. Leaders continue to lead as this is what they are made to do.

A major benefit of opting to work with a Christian Executive Coach is getting help in identifying the best paths for your goals and encouragement for remaining grounded and understanding that you are never alone. There are other people who are facing the very same challenges that you're facing. This is sufficient assurance for maintaining your confidence, motivation and direction.
